Our School

Fakenham Junior School is situated in the middle of a small, but growing, rural market town.

Pupils come to FJS from communities within the town and also some of the surrounding villages. There are approximately 300 pupils on role in years 3 to 6 and presently they are organised into 3 classes per year group. The vast majority of the children come to us from Fakenham Infant School and most transfer to Fakenham Academy Norfolk at age 11. We have very good transition arrangements with both of these schools.

The population of Fakenham is generally stable with many of the families having lived in the town for several generations; a lot of parents and grandparents of the pupils also attended our school! There is some deprivation within the town which results in the school receiving Pupil Premium for approximately 25% of its cohort. The school also has a significant level of Special Educational Need; this is currently running at about 25%.

Our staff are dedicated and hardworking with the best interests of the pupils at the heart of what they do. Many of the staff live within the local community and some are also parents of the school. The staff have a wide range of skills and interests which they use to full effect to enliven and enlighten the children’s lives.

The school building is now over 100 years old and retains a lot of it’s original Edwardian look. It has been maintained well, and adapted over the years, to meet the needs of learning and education today. It is a well-resourced and spacious environment with a large field, playground , wildlife and garden/allotment area. We have a good-sized school hall and onsite kitchen which provides nutritious and delicious lunches.
